Lots of different mark-making, but I’m not sure how much of it is necessary. Is it mark-making for the sake of it? I wonder if it’s more of a distraction.
To keep the lines interesting they have to go in different directions and have contrasts in tone.
John Palmer has a recursive, expressionistic style that is very different to ancient Egytian and Greek art.
I tried to get the texture of the fir but am not sure I succeeded.
These are much more difficult to draw than you might think. They need to be drawn with clean, firm lines for full effect. Mine are too hesitant.
I love Egyptian art. It has such beautiful shapes and lines.
